At Brigidine College, we believe in creating lifelong learners.

Brigidine College is committed to following the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration December 2019. It has specific recommendations to ensuring the best learning outcomes for students in Middle School and Senior School and pathways beyond. We support the current thinking of The Four Pillars for Education in the 21st Century, which identifies the characteristics for learning all throughout our lives.

The Four Pillars of Life Long Learning

  • Learning to know focuses on the mastery of the learning tools, including developing one’s concentration, memory skills and ability to think.
  • Learning to do involves the acquiring and applying of skills including life skills. Qualities such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills assume the greatest importance. The key concept here is “personal competence.”
  • Learning to live together teaches us about human diversity by instilling an awareness of the similarities and the interdependence of all people. Learners exercise tolerance, understanding and mutual respect.
  • Learning to be aims to develop the individual as a member of a family and community. The focus is on developing the imagination and creativity through opportunities for aesthetic, scientific, cultural and social discovery and experimentation, in order to experience “personal fulfilment.”

Learning Skills for the 21st Century

Brigidine follows a learning paradigm to develop each girl’s ability in five key areas that will enhance their learning of any subject and approach to any endeavour. These five 21st Century skills include:

  • Flexible/Adaptive
  • Effective Communication
  • Self-reflection
  • Independence
  • Collaboration
