Brigidine College Indooroopilly School is pleased to be introducing Years 5 and 6 from 2024. The introduction of Year 5 and Year 6 in 2024, will provide students with a tailored Junior School program; offering the best opportunities, including access to specialised teaching and learning, Before and After school care, and cocurricular activities in academic, sport, the arts and mission, whilst developing their sense of community, justice and excellence through Strength and Gentleness.

What will Brigidine College Indooroopilly Years 5 and 6 offer?

Brigidine College Indooroopilly is an independent Girls’ Catholic school in the Brigidine tradition inspiring young women to create a better world by educating and empowering them to embrace a love of life and love of learning.

Students will be able to choose from a range of Cocurricular activities and groups where they will meet girls from other year levels. Where will the Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms be?

Incorporated in a refurbished Brigid Centre, specialist learning areas for Years 5 and 6 allow easy access to all classrooms, play areas and the tuck shop.

In order to ensure the space in the Brigid Centre is best-suited to the needs of the younger students, the Centre will receive an extensive refurbishment with vibrant and high-energy learning and social places, featuring large, open, flexible and energy-efficient classrooms, supplemented with richly integrated technology, designed to support collaboration.

The new facilities will feature outdoor lunch and play spaces with renovated garden and seating areas on all sides.

With the location of the Brigid centre on Cecil Street, our Junior School Centre will also be adjacent to the new Master Planned entry to the College. This first phase of these important works, scheduled for completion in 2025-2026, will provide a new State-of-the-art Library, IT Department and Student services while enhancing students’ and parents’ entry to the College, as well as supporting pick-up and drop-off options and further drive convenience and safety for our entire College community.


Years 5 and 6 Curriculum Overview

Programs of study for Years 5-6 will be based on the nine key learning areas and incorporated four dimensions of the Australian Curriculum, including Religious Education and supported by both the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and the Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). All learning at Brigidine College Indooroopilly College is supported by our Learning and Teaching Framework and our Wellbeing Framework.

Consolidation of the foundational skills of literacy and numeracy is a priority and complimented by the development of competencies aimed at students becoming passionate and inquisitive in their learning.

A collaborative and supportive learning environment enables students to become resilient learners who can articulate and evaluate their learning journey.

What Cocurricular Programs will be offered?

We recognise that the inclusion of quality Cocurricular and Service opportunities is fundamental to the development of well-rounded students.

Brigidine College Indooroopilly College Junior School students will have access to an extensive Cocurricular program which allows students to develop skills and be part of a group.

The Cocurricular Program includes Culture, Service and Sport:

Sport – Our Junior School students will have full access to onsite sports facilities and the opportunity to compete in representative school sport. Quality sporting opportunities are fundamental to providing team and leadership development, courage and confidence alongside known health and physical benefits.

Creative Arts – Cocurricular cultural activities are an important part of the life of the College. Enrolled students can participate in programs offered by our School of Performing Arts and School of Art.

Service – Our Junior School students will enjoy whole cohort outreach opportunities similar to those currently offered throughout the Middle and Senior schools.


Community and leadership

As members of the Brigidine College Indooroopilly School community, Years 5 and 6 students will be a part of all school celebrations, assemblies, liturgies, and masses.

Brigidine College Indooroopilly recognises the importance of providing leadership opportunities to our students. Our Junior School students will have leadership positions built into the junior school through official positions and student representative councils.


How can I secure a place for Year 7 at Brigidine College?

A further benefit of the introduction of Year 5 is that Parents and Caregivers will secure a Secondary School place upon enrolment in Year 5.

When a student joins us in Year 5, they will automatically be guaranteed a place in Year 7. We will also continue to maintain an intake at Year 7, ensuring Parent and Caregivers choice and opportunity remains supported.

Students in Years 5-12 engage in one Wellbeing lesson per week as part of their core program.
