Nidean Dickson

Dean of Professional Teaching

I have a strong passion for a values-based education that puts humanity at the heart of learning. Since graduating from University with Dual Majors in Bachelor of Secondary Education and Arts (Study of Religion/Modern and Ancient History) in 2013, this ethos has been at the core of my educational philosophy.

Through my experience in Catholic Education as a Pastoral Leader, a Curriculum Leader and now undertaking the role of Dean of Professional Teaching at Brigidine College, I am mindful of the role teachers play in the holistic education of young people and ensuring that the student is at the centre of all we do as educators.

Educating students means that we, as educators, are constantly learning ourselves. It is only through continuing to grow and develop as educators, that we can give our students the best education possible. As such, as part of my own ongoing Professional Development, I also completed my Master of Education in Leadership and Management at QUT and have had the good fortune of graduating from the life-changing Gandel Holocaust Education Program at Yad Vashem in Israel. This program was the impetus for the Suspend Judgement Program.

As the College emphasises the personalised Learning with Care program for our students, I am proud to be a part of the corresponding program for our Teaching staff – ensuring they have ongoing, personalised Professional development and coaching to ensure they can be the best educators for our students.
